oaxaca, mexico. 2005. on an extended solo trip south of the border, in between surfing some of my favorite points and beachbreaks, i was also gathering images for another book that i’m working on. this is one of the warning flags put up every morning at the beach, indicating the conditions for those interested in getting wet. i had looked at this a few days earlier and knew i should wait for a very dramatic sky, which, in the rainy season, is almost every afternoon. but the clouds needed to be just right to give the intensity i was looking for. sometimes the wait is almost as good as the chase.
