the amazing craig peterson. nicaragua. 2011. a still from a short time lapse of craig, navigating the ledgy rocks on the way to yet another empty right hand wedge, about a 1/2 mile down the empty beach. for those of you that don’t know who cp is, just google his name and read all about it! legendary lensman from the early days at surfer magazine, explorer extraordinaire, and a greenough follower. toting his brand new 5’6″ kneeboard that i never got to surf. more!

hank schyma. fitz. certainly one of the more outgoing and energetic rock n roll persona in houston. hank embodies what a show is all about. he brings it to ya! this is a favorite from the show. no cropping here, folks. wide angle, right there, inches away from the action. thats the way to shoot music, the way it’s given. “never hear surf music again”

new mexico. 12.2011. a stark, but fully alive valley of shifting sands and burning brightness well into the night. my first visit here and i see that i’ve been missing a stop along the way. worth a day and a night of overnight camping to see the darkness and the light at the same time. a free matted, 8×10 print, of this image, to the first one who responds with the correct location!! times a wastin’, snuffy!

2011. christmas fundraiser. i couldn’t resist the image. it seems as if this is what christmas is about. making people happy. making children happier. oblivious to her surroundings, but completely enveloped in her mission, as she heads toward the tree with more gifts for the underprivileged. merry christmas everybody!

nicaragua. 06.2011. every morning before heading out for a surf, while the rest of the crew was slinging some heavy nica coffee, i would choose a street and do a lap. this particular morning, i was still a bit tired, so i thought it would be interesting to shoot in that mode, slightly soft, to mimic my early vision. the entire lap, i shot everything out of focus intentionally, focusing on the shapes and colors, rather than a subject or statement. results are fun. so is walking around the block in san juan del sur!

west lynn, oregon. 2003-04. dig that surfy style, man! caught in the act, the day after 28,000 vertical feet of climbing on mt. hood & mt. adams, summiting both in 3 days. just another way to get the blood flowing, stylin’ ’round the concrete.

minute maid park. 11pm. is this the coolest image ever of the ball park? c’mon! you know it is. and your jealous as well. how often do you or most of the general public get to wander the ball park, at night, while it’s virtually empty? 40 seconds at 436 feet from home plate. no peanuts. no 8 dollar beers. now you’re really jealous.

cubano

november. 2011. i came across this old cuban man, hand rolling some very fine cigars, and was captivated by, not only his hands, but by the precision of his work. round cuts, layers, and then, a perfect cigar. his hands told the entire story, and then some.

alejandro escovedo. 2011. al and i began working on a collaborative project this past summer, and we started shooting at an austin city limits show that was more rockin’ than i think i’ve seen al in some time. it might be the venue or the crowd. i suspect it was a bit of both. he killed it that evening with such style, it killed me.

vlad the impaler, at the helm

vlad the impaler. october. 2011. if there was ever a person more suited to pirating and sailing, i’d have to say it this man. shot from the prow of the bettie del mar, vlad hangs it just a bit as we pull another tack. this image is part of a new project, (another) photographing captain and crew sailing, while i shoot from onboard and from another boat, taking sailing images to a fine art level
