assignment. may 2012. i had a limited amount of time and a weather window to work with, all while photographing beautiful horses. while great to shoot, they do not always cooperate or listen well to instructions regarding posing and they have no knowledge of what good light and composition are… nor do they care. that makes it interestingly amusing at times. this particular lady, once she became accustomed to the sound of the cameras, was happy to cooperate, if only for a few seconds.

tuesday. austin, texas. david grissom @ saxon pub. it wasn’t even dark outside yet and the house was rockin’! david and his razor sharp band killed it, tune after tune. if you don’t or haven’t it’s time to…get on out for something live!

april 2012. the bridge. since we’re in the triptych mode, i may as well throw another. this piece of architecture is so photographed, that nothing is really to fresh, but maybe just a snapshot is all one needs. i’m driving, and shooting. my wife says i can’t do that, so i handed her the camera, said push the button and see what happens. i’m not sure where i stopped and she started. maybe you can.

04/2012. kevin naughton’s backyard. fortunately, no one caught me while lurking in the naughton’s backyard, stealing a glimpse here and there into the life of a lifetime surfer and writer. around a corner, i came across a stash of boards that told a hundred tales. within this band of boards, there is one particular board that has a wonderful story of just how things come around, how friendships are started and that sometimes, a little help goes much further than the parking lot. thanks kevin, for not calling the cops when ya caught me!

new work. you know those images that you think will work if the conditions are correct. there’s a train yard very near my house, and i drive and ride my bike through there pretty often with my son, sheriff, because he’s a train fanatic. i had this image in my mind for some time, but the conditions were never quite right. until this night. no wind. humid. high dew point. fog. it’s maybe 1-1:30am and i’m out shooting, solely for this single image, for my son, sheriff, because, as i stated prior, he’s a train fanatic. daddy loves you!

san antonio. 2012. on assignment. 1 in a series of 13 portraits that define what the employees are like. every one was a completely different location with a myriad of hurdles and conditions to overcome. that’s what keeps this career interesting… at every turn there’s new people and new problems to solve, and at the same time, to have a creative solution that works. keeps me wanting more.
